A Sneak Peek At Suzuki Motor Corporation

Suzuki didn’t start as a motorcycle company but as a manufacturer of weaving looms in 1909. The founder of Suzuki is Michio Suzuki and the multi-national company is headquartered in Minami-ku, Hamamatsu, Japan. Suzuki is the third largest motorcycle supplier in Japan and the ninth biggest automaker worldwide.

In the year 1952, Suzuki built its first ever motorized bicycle and was named as “Power Free”. It was designed for being inexpensive and fuel efficient and a 36 cc two-stroke engine was employed for the job. A unique sprocket gear system was used in this bicycle which allowed it to be used with pedals only, with pedals and engine assistance or by making use of engine only.

Later on, Suzuki increased its portfolio and began manufacturing of motorcycles. During the years 1955 – 1976, Suzuki manufactured motorcycles which were driven by a two-stroke engine. Initially, Suzuki was interested in the manufacture of racing bikes and has successfully delivered some remarkable power machines. Gradually Suzuki emerged to be one of the leading two-wheeler manufacturers. Nowadays, Suzuki manufactures automobiles, four-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, outboard marine engines, wheelchair and other motorised products.
